Zafar Iqbal is an award-winning professor, distinguished applied researcher and consultant with expertise in business strategy and new product development.
A prolific scholar, he is the author of numerous business and scholarly articles that have appeared in the Journal of Marketing, California Management Review, Sloan Management Review, Journal of Service Research and Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, among other publications.
Iqbal lectures at the executive, graduate and undergraduate levels at DePaul University, teaching courses that focus on new product development, sustainable business models, advanced consumer insights, and marketing strategy and management. He also co-directs the Integrated Marketing Education Program, DePaul’s honors marketing program. He has won DePaul’s Excellence in Teaching Award twice and, based on votes cast by graduates, has been honored seven times with the Driehaus College of Business Lawrence W. Ryan Distinguished Teaching Award and twice with the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business Gus Economos Distinguished Teaching Award.
Iqbal also is responsible for developing and executing DePaul’s internationalization strategy as the associate director for regional initiatives. He has led international study abroad programs for DePaul students to India, Japan and the Middle East. His previous international education experience includes teaching MBA courses at the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand and the Czech Management Center in the Czech Republic, as well as senior executive level courses at Steinbeis University in Germany.
In industry, he is the principal consultant at Erudite Consulting, which he founded in 2005. He has more than 15 years of consulting experience at numerous companies, a sampling of which include Knowles Electronics, Bosch, Chicago Tribune, Newell Rubbermaid, Wahl Clipper Corp., MB Financial, cars.com, Terumo, Alfa Laval, Skoda Automotive, Walgreens, Motorola, Healthpoint, DHL, ISACA, Pohang Iron & Steel Company, Zenith Corp., Credit Suisse First Boston, and the Iowa Department of Transportation. Iqbal also has worked in business-to-business marketing for Thermax Corp., India.
Iqbal is the co-founder of Friends for India’s Development and Assistance (FIDA), a not-for-profit founded to educate tribal children in rural India. He is fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi, Urdu and Gujarati; speaks German at an intermediate level; and reads Arabic at a basic level.
Iqbal earned a PhD in marketing from the University of Pittsburgh, an MS in Industrial Relations from Iowa State University, and a BE in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Poona, India.
